Movie Under the Stars
April 13, 2017

ʻOhana of our Keiki and ʻŌpio after-school programs enjoyed a movie and food together under the stars at our Hui Mālama O Ke Kai site. During a week where the students focused on the value naʻauao - enlightenment, families watched the movie Moana and were able to recognize the importance of opening ourselves up to receiving knowledge in order to fulfill the destiny that our kūpuna have laid out for us.

Kālai Papa me Pōhaku Kuʻi ʻAi
October 2016-February 2017

Hui Mālama O Ke Kai would like to send a great big hoʻomaikaʻi to all of the ʻohana who have completed our 6th Papa me Pōhaku Kuʻi ʻAi series.  In an effort to support the movement of "a board and stone in every home," families met weekly to learn how to hand carve a papa kuʻi ʻai (food pounding board) and shape a pōhaku kuʻi ʻai (food pounding stone) without electrical tools.  Hūlō to all those who were able to complete this phase of your journey.  To all who weren't able to finish or even those who weren't able to attend this round, we look forward to seeing you next time.  Keep an eye on our website for updates on the next class.  Mahalo!

ʻOhana of our Keiki and ʻŌpio after-school programs enjoyed an evening of bingo, ʻono food and even better fellowship.  ʻŌpū and naʻau were filled with lūʻau stew prepared by the wonderful Kassebeer ʻohana and kalo paʻa prepared by the haumāna of Hui Mālama O Ke Kai.  Families were able to play together and win prizes generously donated by various community partners.  Mahalo nui to Target of Honolulu, Subway Waimānalo, Shima's Market, ʻAi Love Nalo, and Hawaiian Island Cafe for your aloha.

Paikau Kalikimaka
December 10, 2017

Hui Mālama O Ke Kai participated in another Waimānalo Christmas Parade, an annual tradition for our program and the community.  Staff, participants and family members came together to build a float supporting a theme of "Hui Mālama O Ke Kai, a Home for Waimānalo."  Mahalo to all those who supported the efforts as well as all of the haumāna who were able to share their beautiful voices and aloha with the community during the parade.

November 17, 2017

In an effort to promote over all health and wellness of our community, Hui Mālama O Ke Kai hosted our second annual Lomilomi Night where lomi practitioner Mele Coelho shared her ʻike with the ʻohana of Hui Mālama O Ke Kai.  Teaching the art of daily lomilomi and health, Mele was able to send the ʻohana home with tools for taking care of themselves as well as one another.  Mahalo piha iā ʻoe e Mele!!!
