About Us

The Hui Mālama O Ke Kai Foundation is a grassroots, community-based organization that inspires ongoing stewardship of our island and ocean resources.

Our Foundation

We believe in a world where every child has the opportunity to interact with nature and the ocean. In the spirit of aloha ‘āina, Hui Mālama O Ke Kai’s mission is to create experiential learning programs that connect youth to outdoor curriculum and service opportunities. Hui Mālama O Ke Kai works with community leaders and organizations to provide meaningful education rooted in cultural traditions.

Ka Nuʻukia (Vision)

Waimānalo as a community with a strong sense of place, where its people perpetuate the use and value of indigenous knowledge, and where collaborative stewardship is sustained for generations.

Ka Ala Nuʻukia (Mission)

To create a place of belonging, inspire self efficacy, and cultivate an engaged community.

Nā Waiwai (Core Values)

  • Aloha: To acknowledge that which is greater than ourselves
  • Pono: To pursue excellence and cultivate justice
  • ʻOnipaʻa: To be steadfast, determined and firmly rooted
  • Mālama: To care for, honor, and protect
